If the driving time appears long, we take into account the frequent stops, passage through villages and different terrains, the landscape is extremely varied and changing.
Day 1: Mombasa - Tsavo West NATIONAL PARK
(4 hours’ drive)
Depart from your hotel at 6 am for the Tsavo West National Park. Make entry into the park in the middle of the morning and drive up the Ngulia hills plateau. Arrive and set up camp in time for lunch. During the middle of the afternoon, set out to explore the park until sunset. Visit the famous Mzima Springs; a resurgence of crystal clear waters, filtered by the volcanic Tsavo rocks, forming pools of water inhabited by hippos and crocodiles, then explore the Roaring Rocks site on foot and admire the panoramic views and the sun setting over the Chyulu Hills and Mount Kilimanjaro. Return back to the camp for dinner spend the night in a tent.
Day 2: TSAVO WEST
Depart after breakfast for an easy 3 hour long walk on the slopes of the Chyulu hills, a range of volcanic hills having been formed as a result of an eruption dating about 500 years ago. Embark on an excursion to the "Shetani lava flow “which is at about 900 meters of altitude all the way to the summit of a small volcano bearing the same name culminating at 1500 meters of altitude. Enjoy a picnic lunch and then return to the vehicle for an exploration of the park for the remainder of the afternoon in search of the animals of Tsavo. Return to the camp at sunset. Enjoy dinner around a campfire and spend the night in a tent gazing at the starry African sky.
Day 3: TSAVO WEST - LAKE JIPE
(3 hours’ drive)
Depart at dawn for a game drive in search of animals in "Rhino Valley". Drive back for breakfast and thereafter depart for Lake Jipe, a wild and rarely visited area extending to Tanzania featuring the Pare Mountains in the background. Arrive and check in, in time for lunch at the park’s bungalows located on the very shores of Lake Jipe. The shores of Lake Jipe team up with birds of all kinds and colors and elephant herds have the habit of coming here to drink water. Depart to the park for a game drive in search of animals at the end of the afternoon. Drive back in time to observe the sun setting on Mount Kilimanjaro and the Pare Mountains. After dinner, keep vigil around the campfire before retiring for the night in your room.
Day 4: LAKE JIPE - TSAVO EST
(2 hours’ drive)
Embark on a game drive at the break of dawn in search for animals near the lake. Have breakfast and then embark on a 1 hour’ boat ride on the lake in search of hippos. Depart for Tsavo East National Park. Arrive in time for lunch and set up camp at a camping site in the middle of the park. Depart for a game drive all afternoon in search of animals along the Voi seasonal river to the Aruba waterhole. Return to the camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: TSAVO EST - MOMBASA
(2 hours’ drive)
Depart at dawn for a game drive in search of animals. Return for breakfast. Thereafter depart for a game drive heading to the northern of the park towards the Galana River, following a path that winds along the seasonal Mbololo river bed, a tributary of the Galana River and all the way to the Lugard’s falls. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the park. Return to Mombasa crossing the Ndara plains of Tsavo East National Park. Expected arrival in Mombasa in the early hours of the evening.
