Depart from your hotel in the early morning hours towards the Shimba Hills Reserve, an animal and plant sanctuary located only forty minutes drive from Diani Beach. The reserve is home not only to elephants and buffaloes but is also inhabited by an endemic species; the Sable antelope or hippotragus which is difficult to observe in a dense tropical forest environment. Drive in search of animals and thereafter hike for about an hour to the middle of the forest at a spectacular waterfall. Climb back up to the vehicle and enjoy lunch at Shimba Hills Lodge built entirely of wood at the top of the forest’s indigenous trees. The Lodge overlooks several natural saltlicks that animals visit frequently. Depart again after lunch for one last game drive in search of Shimba Hill’s animals. Return to your hotel in the late afternoon.
